Reflections from Goat Land - Month 1

This week some of the milking team spent a few minutes reflecting on the experiences so far...
What has been the biggest lesson so far?
- Continuing to realise how much I don't know about green/natural land working
- The goats can see inside my mind! When milking I need to set the right intention because if I don't they can see that. It's important that the milking collective milk the goats with a similar mindset
- The goats really respond to calming singing
- Read the feeding sheet carefully
- Commitment does not depend on the weather
- Learning how to milk. Using herbs as dietary / health supplement.
- When you're milking every morning you can't go out to the pub many nights in a week

What has been the hardest thing?
- Commitment and sacrifice has been hard. I normally have no constraints on my time and have already cut out a chunk of planned travel time.
- Milking Audre
- Not being short tempered at 7:30am after too little sleep while feeling like I am explaining the same thing for the 100th time. I often don't succeed.
- Working out how to fit in milking and land care while looking after a 2.5 year old. Rounding up kids and child all demanding food and attention at the same time.
- Realising that I have to establish myself as dominant to the herd
- Wanting to spend more time on making things happen and keeping up with all the changes that happen each day. The more time I have free to spend at the project the more engaged I am.
- Milking!

What has been your favourite thing?
- Building a relationship with the goats
- Milking a goat with baby strapped to my back who was gently stroking and calming the goat behind me while I milked.
- Cycling up to milk the goats on a sunny morning. I feel there is no better way to start the day at the moment. And appreciating milk like never before.
- Working with animals. Having a routine. Working with other people.
- Spending time at the site with the goats and the other milkers.
- Getting alongside not only the goats but a new range of contacts/friends.
- Managing to get milk from Blossom, slow and steady! And being with the goats.
- Feeling like our community is bonding. Seeing everyone help each other and the project. Embracing the chaos of not knowing how things will unfold but doing it anyway.
